Shaw Savill & Albion’s Persic built in 1949 for SS&A by Cammell & Laird. She was a sister ship to Suevic / Runic. She was re-named Derwent in 1969 for the Royal mail line. The photo shows her in Royal mail colour’s. She was scrapped in Spain in 1971.

Standard Marconi marine radio equipment of the day. Main transmitter was a Oceanspan to its left there is a Lifeguard auto watch keeping receiver. To the right of the Oceanspan there is a Reliance reserve transmitter ( M.F only and strangely was not crystal controlled but used a LC circuit to set the frequency ) and as usual for a SS&A vessel a Mercury & Electra receiver.
